Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday vowed to strongly resist the government's move to pass Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) proposed Tax Amnesty Scheme under Finance (Amendment) Bill, 2012, the National Accountability Commission Bill, 2012 and Dual Nationality (Amendment) Bill from the Lower House.

"One thing is very clear on our part, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has completely shut its doors to hold any talks on these three bills, which are in no way in the national interest and all of them don't qualify for any sort of transparency," Nisar said in categorical terms, while talking to reporters outside parliament house. He also rejected the perception that PML-N was engaged in holding "backdoor" talks with the government to get these three bills passed from the National Assembly.

Strongly reacting to the FBR tax amnesty scheme, leader of the opposition said that the rulers were trying to "whiten" the past five years' corruption and "black money" particularly of their cronies like "Behria Town". He said that Transparency Intentional had also written letter to Chief Justice to take notice of the scheme, adding that PML-N will strongly resist and block its passage from the National Assembly, which the government wants to get passed under Finance (Amendment) Bill 2012.

Similarly, Nisar said that his party will not allow the dual nationality and the national accountability commission bills to be passed from the National Assembly and will also not enter into any kind of talks with the government in this regard. He also lashed out at the government for appointing Salman Farooqi as Federal Ombudsman, saying that appointment of the senior bureaucrat who is also a staff officer of President Asif Ali Zardari was against the rules and regulations.

He said that appointment of a controversial person for the responsible task was a 'joke' with 180 million people of the country, adding that the precedents set by the present government could not be found in the successive martial law regimes. Commenting on the recent bye-elections, Nisar said that the results of the polls were an eye-opener for the present coalition partners, adding that it was reaction of the masses against the government's past five-year incompetence.

He asked those who levelled charges of rigging to come up with evidence to the Election Commission which is the right forum to prove the allegations. He particularly criticised the statement of deputy prime minister and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, saying that those who wanted to elect General Musharraf ten times in the uniform, were hell bent not to accept the results of the elections held under the supervision of an independent Election Commission.

To a question, Chuadhry Nisar said that PML-N would take all the political parties along even if it emerges as the single majority party in the next general elections, adding that the party was of the considered opinion that no single party can steer the country out of the prevailing crises. To another question, he defended his party's boycott of the parliamentary commission on creation of more provinces in Punjab, saying his party was not against formation of more federating units but it has expressed some valid concerns. He said that Speaker National Assembly does not have the mandate to nominate the PML-N representative in the commission; rather it was the authority of the party to nominate whoever it wants.

Furthermore, he added that they have also concerns over the chairman of the commission, Farhatullah Babar, who is on one hand the staff officer of the President while on the other, belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He further said that all the members of the commission have been appointed from the southern Punjab while it was necessary to give representation to the central Punjab in the commission so as to settle other issues like distribution of resources.
